Volkswagen recently announced the building of a $1 billion plant in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The news is hugely significant not just for the city, but for the entire area, including nearby Alabama.Chattanooga's made huge strides in recent years of cleaning up the city, especially in the category of air pollution. In 1969, the city was actually ranked Number 1 by the U.S. Department of Health, Education and Welfare among cities with the worst particulate air pollution.
However, the city made good on their promises of cleaning up, as they have a beautiful riverfront and are no longer on the Environmental Protection Agency's "Dirty Air List."
The choice of Volkswagen to put a plant in Chattanooga has excited many of the residents, particularly the mayor, and there will be an estimated 2,000 new jobs created by the new facility.
